Radar cross section reduction of a cavity in the ground plane

چکیده
This paper investigates the reduction of backscatter radar cross section (RCS) for a rectangular cavity embedded in the ground plane. The bottom of the cavity is coated by a thin, multilayered radar absorbing material (RAM) with possibly different permittivities. The objective is to minimize the backscatter RCS by the incidence of a plane wave over a single or a set of incident angles. By formulating the scattering problem as a Helmholtz equation with artificial boundary condition, the gradient with respect to the material permittivities is determined efficiently by the adjoint state method, which is integrated into a nonlinear optimization scheme. Numerical example shows the RCS may be significantly reduced. AMS subject classifications: 35Q93, 35J05

Radar Cross Section Reduction of a Cavity in the Ground Plane: Te Polarization
The reduction of backscatter radar cross section(RCS) in TE polarization for a rectangular cavity embedded in the ground plane is investigated in this paper. It is established by placing a thin, multilayered radar absorbing material(RAM) with possibly different permittivities at the bottom of the cavity. A minimization problem with respect to the backscatter RCS is formulated to determine the s...
متن کاملMonopole Antenna Radar Cross Section Reduction with Plasma Helix
In this paper, a new method for radar cross section reduction of a monopole antenna is proposed. In this method, a plasma helix like fluorescent bulbs is placed around the antenna element. The selected plasma parameter for this medium acts as an absorber without disturbing the antenna performance. The simulations show that radar cross section of simulated antenna is reduced in a wide frequency ...
متن کاملOptimal Shape Design of a Cavity for Radar Cross Section Reduction
This paper focuses on the reduction of radar cross section (RCS) for a cavity embedded in an infinite ground plane. By introducing a transparent boundary condition, the unbounded scattering problem is reduced to a bounded domain problem. RCS reduction for the cavity is formulated as a shape optimization problem involving the Helmholtz equation. The existence of the minimizer is proved under an ...
متن کاملProcessing a multifold ground penetration radar data using common-diffraction-surface stack method
Recently, the non-destructive methods have become of interest to the scientists in various fields. One of these method is Ground Penetration Radar (GPR), which can provide a valuable information from underground structures in a friendly environment and cost-effective way. To increase the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the GPR data, multi-fold acquisition is performed, and the Common-Mid-Points ...
متن کاملRCS Reduction of Patch Array Antenna by Complementary Split-Ring Resonators Structure
In this paper, a new approach for the radar cross section (RCS) reduction of patch array antenna is proposed. Complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) are etched on the ground of the proposed patch antenna array. A conventional 1 × 4 patch antenna array is designed with the central frequency of 5.0 GHz. The monostatic RCS of the patch antenna array with CSRRs can be reduced as much as 14 dB ...
